Building on the success of the summer internships from the past years, this summer, Aize welcomed 15 new students to our offices in Oslo and Aberdeen to work on real-life industrial challenges. This year, the tagline was “Experience Opportunities” as we have introduced some new initiatives to the program, like the opportunity to travel between our offices.
As always, the rule is having fun and daring to think outside the box! We've chatted with some of this year’s interns about their experiences and projects. Have a read!

Team in Aize Summer Internship: MetaMedia (Aberdeen office)
Can you tell us a bit about your project with team MetaMedia?
The main challenge of our project was to capture/upload an image and then use this information to pinpoint where the image is located on an asset within the Aize workspace. This involved extracting data from images and introducing new features to the workspace to allow for a more visualised image display.
How has this internship given you a chance to apply knowledge from your education?
The mentors gave us complete freedom over our project so we could make it into whatever we wanted. It's been great for the team to have so much control over the product and seeing it develop from our Figma board all the way through to deployment.
We have learnt so much in just six weeks and the challenges are non stop, but the vibes are good and I've had a lot of fun!
What are some of your best memories of the internship?
This summer has been so valuable to me for so many reasons. At the beginning of the summer, I was expecting to be a backend developer but as the project progressed I became full-stack and I've gained a lot of confidence as a programmer from this.
I got to work with the most amazing team members and I'm super grateful to Aize for bringing us together. Another highlight was getting to present in the Norway office and meeting the rest of the interns and going for a fjord swim - that was definitely a bucket list item crossed off!

Team in Aize Summer Internship: MetaMedia (Aberdeen office)
How has this internship given you a chance to apply knowledge from your education?
This internship has provided me with the chance to delve deeper into several different aspects of software development which previously I had only been introduced to during my studies at university.
For example, I contributed to the design of our web app by conducting a heuristic evaluation of the Aize workspace using concepts from a human-computer interaction module I took in third year. Furthermore, I was quite familiar with long-term project development and the Scrum development methodology, just like at Aize, so this enabled me to hit the ground running.
What would you say to students thinking about joining the internship next year?
To any students considering Aize for a summer internship next year, I would encourage you to just go for it and apply, even if you need to relocate to Aberdeen or Fornebu temporarily to do so. The internship will be both a challenging and a rewarding experience where you will learn something new every day. Aize has all the necessary resources to help you explore all the different aspects of software engineering, such as UX and UI design, or frontend and backend development. You'll also get the chance to meet and learn from a huge range of extremely friendly people and possibly make lifelong friendships.
What are your plans for the next months?
I'll be returning home to spend some quality time with my family. While home, I'd also like to begin applying some of the skills I've honed at Aize to some of my personal projects. In September, I'll be travelling back to St Andrews for the final year of my undergraduate degree, which will include my dissertation, but after interning at Aize, I've never felt more prepared!

Aize Summer Internship Team:
MetaMedia (Aberdeen office)
What is your background and why was Aize an interesting place for you to intern?
I worked as the UX designer/Frontend developer in the MetaMedia team, and our project was about allowing users to capture and upload pictures within the assets of a 3D model.
As a computer science student with a passion for research and digital art, merging my technical expertise with my artistic inclinations in a collaborative team environment was a dream come true. Working with cutting-edge technologies like Angular in web development and UX design provided invaluable hands-on experience.
What is your best tip for good team collaboration?
Be vocal about any issues or challenges that may arise. Addressing problems openly and early on prevents them from escalating and disrupting progress.
Giving both positive feedback and constructive criticism is important for continuous improvement, both as individuals and as a team. It’s all about being considerate and finding the perfect balance between different working styles and personalities.
What would you say to students thinking about joining the internship next year?
Be yourself and show genuine confidence in your abilities during the interview process. Trust me, the community at the company is incredibly welcoming and understanding, and that makes a world of difference.
There are many benefits from working at Aize, but honestly, what I loved the most about this internship is the wonderful community and the incredible people around me. They make every day enjoyable and inspiring, and I believe it's this supportive environment that brings out the best in everyone.

Team in Aize Summer Internship:
AizeGPT (Oslo office)
Can you tell us a bit about your project with team AizeGPT?
My team’s project is all about utilising a language model in a search function. We are building upon the already existing search function in Aize, but we are creating our own web application where users can write natural language to search for what they need. A lot of this was new to us and a very open task, so we spent a lot of time researching and coming up with what could make search more efficient!
How has this internship given you a chance to apply knowledge from your education?
I worked on the frontend part of our project in my team, so I got to apply a lot of my knowledge about creating and designing a web application. Knowing how to use a terminal beforehand was also very handy! A lot of the things we had to use for our project I’ve only heard about during my studies or barely scratched the surface of, like working with API’s and other type of connections. Even though I didn’t know too much of that when I started, I’m very happy that I finally know how it works now.
What are some of your best memories of the internship?
Our trip to Aberdeen in Scotland is a memory I will cherish for a very long time. It was so much fun to meet the other intern and spend time together! Another honorable mention are all the table tennis matches my team played during breaks. They always made me laugh and brightened everyone’s mood. I think we all even improved a lot over these six weeks!
What are your plans for the next month?
After the internship I have a over a month vacation before I travel back to Poland to start my final year of my bachelor! I plan on travelling, eating lots of good food and spending time with friends.

Geo Wizards (Oslo office)
Can you tell us a bit about your project with team Geo Wizards?
We have been working on an interactive map to track and display assets in Aize. We are using a 3D-globe (like Google Earth) to display the assets, and 3D-models to show the different types.
What is your best tip for good team collaboration?
My top tip for good team collaboration is to always meet and leave your colleagues with a big smile. «Teamwork makes the dream work». I also think it’s important to celebrate every win within the team, whether it’s progress in the project or improvement in table tennis!
What are some of your best memories of the internship? My best memory is definitely our trip to the office in Aberdeen. We spent two days exploring the Aize office and the rest of the city, and spent time with the interns located in Aberdeen. I’ve also enjoyed the other social activities like mini-golf, volleyball and bowling.
What would you say to students thinking about joining the internship next year?
Join! It’s been a very nice experience and we’ve had a lot of fun. I have learned a lot of tips and tricks from working with other students and from the mentors and buddies at Aize. If you want to experience the combination of hard work and legendary lunch for six weeks, apply!

How has this internship given you a chance to apply knowledge from your education?
As a relatively young company in a thrilling stage of growth, Aize offers an environment where there’s so much potential for change and evolution — which I find both challenging and exciting. From day one, I was given responsibility and was actively involved in key project decisions. The first two weeks were dedicated to a discovery phase, during which we employed a multitude of UX methodologies I had learned during my studies.
What are some of your best memories of the internship?
The social events organized by the company have been truly unforgettable, and I found them to be a great opportunity to network and meet different people within the company.
One of my favorite daily activities was playing ping pong during breaks, which was not only a fun moment but also a great way to build stronger relationships with my colleagues.
What would you say to students thinking about joining the internship next year?
If you’re considering an internship at Aize, I can’t recommend it highly enough. Be prepared to diving right in from day one, taking on responsibility and making a genuine contribution. The culture here encourages fun alongside the hard work, making for an engaging and fulfilling experience. Moreover, the team at Aize is incredibly supportive and welcoming, always ready to offer assistance and guidance. It’s an excellent opportunity for hands-on learning and professional growth.
